About Me

I‘m a self-thought painter, photographer and writer, living in Helsinki. I’m originally from Italy. I started drawing and painting when I was about 12 years old, and my favorite subjects were Manga characters. All types of Manga: fantasy, cyberpunk, shojo, I liked them all. I loved the style, the big eyes, the hair and faces, and the multitude of  different drawing styles and storytelling different authors had. I never got interested about american comics, for instance: all superheroes. I guess I kept the manga style afterwards, when I started painting and creating my own characters and developing my own style.

I took painting (and writing) out of emotions and life experiences, but as I progressed, I realized you cannot talk about life experiences if you don’t have any. Hadn’t traveled the world, hadn’t seen anything. Therefore I decided to move abroad, and I moved to Dublin where I lived for about nine years. Culture-wise, Ireland inspired me a lot. I met people, made some of the best friends I’ve ever encountered, made tons of life experiences, mistakes, met loved ones and grew apart from them, met loved ones and never grew apart from them. I mostly painted oils, at the beginning, then acrylics and inks for most of the time, taking very long breaks in the between. I traveled a lot.

I changed my style when I was living in Helsinki, approaching more traditional portraits and abandoning my previous surrealistic (a bit cartoonist) style, although people still told me my paintings still looked quite surreal. I’ve discovered abstracts just recently, which has been quite surprising as I thought I would never paint abstracts, as I had been doing only portraits all my life. I have to say I’ve been quite enjoying it, doing mostly acrylics and mostly pour and swipe, and dripping.

I do not have any favorite painter or artistic movement, and often I do not follow any contemporary painters cause I’m interested in a multitude of things, like economics and finance, and I don’t have time for art (yeah I said that). Thing is, yeah, I'm a developer, and that's where I spend 99% of my time now. If I have to, I’d say among my favorites are Francis Bacon, Jackson Pollock and the abstract expressionists, Mark Rothko, Salvador Dali, Agustí Puig, Ron Mueck, Damien Hirst, to cite few. I love cinema and I get lots of inspiration out of it, and music, of course. You can’t paint without music.
